A Theory of Spiritual Restoration must discuss exactly what is to be restored as well as what has been modifying it so that restoration has become necessary. Obviously, this standard has two parts: that which remains or has returned when the restoration is complete, and that which is to be removed or corrected.

Æscirian theory addresses both of these. In Æscirology, these items are the essential individual (that which remains when the restoration is complete) and disorientation (that which is to be removed or corrected).

Note that this perspective assumes the impossibility of returning to some innocent native state. Rather, the objective is an informed native ability. It is in the process of correcting disorientation that a "new and improved" individual is brought into being, one that now is better than it ever had been.

It is "new" because the source of its disorientation is primal. The individual has been disconnected from its true self since the first instant of its existence. When that disconnection has been removed and its effects corrected, the being finds itself in a state that was simply inaccessible to it before. It is "improved" because it can now freely draw upon all its past experience and education in the ways of life and living, and it can more easily and sensibly incorporate new experience and further education.

A Theory of Origins

In the Æscirian philosophy, the entire universe exists as fiction spun from within the very fabric of its creator. As some physicists are fond of saying, everything exists only within the mind of God. This includes all material, and whatever spiritual or other content or concepts that might exist anywhere. All "wheres" and "whens" as well, for everything within an eternal creator is also eternal.

Of course, in Æscirology, etc., we are not speaking of any of the popular concepts of God, so we don't use that term except when referencing the statements of others. As a point of fact, Æscirology does not include the concept of a separate deity at all. Instead, we refer to a generalized universal consciousness of which we are all manifestations, using the term Æther.

Æther is generally conscious. (The Æscirian Fundamentals, #3, as given in our book, Mind Matters.) Existing all at once in what we might see as an all-encompassing unchanging eternal moment, Æther is equally aware of everything but without any specific focus.

But what if focus could occur? Would the whole of Æther be focused to some single "point" or "object"? Or might it be that Æther would find itself locally individuated relative to all possible points of view and whatever "objects" might be "there" to be viewed? Fortunately, we don't have to rely on speculation alone to confirm this proposition. Building upon the discoveries revealed in thousands of hours of practitioner-client examination, we find the second of these possibilities to be the case: at the instant of originally conceiving itself as having the ability to focus, Æther immediately became infinitely individuated toward focusing upon each and every possible thing.

It is helpful to think of Æther as being multidimensional. Each individualized manifestation of Æther-as-viewpoint seems to be an almost separate and self-actuated realm of existence. Generally, we think, act and live in terms of the self-as-separate point of view. Yet the idea that each of us might actually be a "part" of or "facet" of Æther is not completely foreign to most people. What the Æscirian point of view asks us to do is merge these two frameworks into an all-encompassing whole. We are asked to see that each individual is one among infinite facets of Æther, to see that Æther is the One being the infinite Many, and to see therefore that each of us is actually an alternate multidimensional Æther-self. We are asked to see existence as the One being the Many, all at once in the here and now, with the Many as infinite facets of the One, and with each of us in some deep sense being one another's alternate selves. As one revered text expresses it within the family metaphor, "I am in you, you are in me, the Father is in us!"

As a whole, Æther knows all but realizes no thing in particular. No differentiations are made, no similarities considered, and no sense of "selfness" exists. However, all of this seems to reverse at what can be called the local level, the realm of the individual. Here, each thing is seen from some illusory "direction" or another, each of which direction is composed of an assignment of location in space and time. And while each of these certainly exists for us experientially, in truth none is anything more than inventions of consciousness. This is why discussions of Æscirology often refer to the local "real-life" world as The Grand Illusion.

Here is where differentiation and comparison occur; for here we find the individual, the one into which Æther has individuated, itself the result of primal differentiation. This is why some philosophies say that [what they think of as] God "needs" us (local points of view) to experience the world.

The Essential Individual

The Æscirian Fundamentals describe the essential individual as an individuation or conceptual subdivision within the general consciousness that is and creates life itself.

We call the general consciousness Æther, and we define the individual as a viewpoint-specific concentration of consciousness within it. So an individual is Æther selecting and assuming a viewpoint and persona through which to express and experience a perspective. The individual perceives itself as having certain qualifications and capabilities; the sum of these is the self-image.

Both the individual and its experiential reality are manifested from the "fabric" of Æther. Thus the individual is a facet of that which "creates" itself and all of existence, and possesses an innate endowment of the capacities of Æther. The potential within the endowment is variable and is determined "moment-to-moment" in accord with the self-image.

The Æscirian Fundamentals define the capacities of Æther as Consciousness, Volition, and Intention. We call this the Prime Paradigm. We like to say that, "We consult to the paradigm," which is to say that everything we do is informed by our desire to enhance the free exercise of these three capacities.

Consciousness is self-referencing awareness: it is not simply awareness in the sense of noticing "other" entities and elements of reality, but also awareness of self and of being aware; it includes vision, thought, perspective, and experience. Because all "external" reality is actualized within Æther, the term "self-referencing" includes what appear to be external objects.

Volition is the power of decision and naming; it includes will, choice, and purposefulness. It is by way of volition that the experiential reality of space, time and action is generated.

Intention is the projection of self into objectivity. This is the function by way of which (Æther as) the individual poses an apparently physical universe within which to play out the experience of pursuing the purpose of life.

All powers are manifested through the exercise of the capacities described by the Prime Paradigm, each different power being a unique combination of varying allocations of those capacities. Thus the individual is nothing less than the Creator itself, extended into personhood and not normally aware of its greater essence.

Anything in the individual's self-image that is inconsistent with this description is a misdefinition of self and will manifest as disorientation.


Most cosmologies suggest that the individual and its world are created by a separate and omnipotent Creator in pursuit of some grand or diversionary intention. Yet it is possible that the individual, etc., does not exist as a result of some intentional cosmic decision. Rather, it may be that the individual, and with it the entirety of experiential existence, is an unpremeditated, indeed even an unexpected, consequence of Æther merely localizing its awareness and precipitating a focus of attention "from" a point of view "toward" a presumedly separate "object". The individual mainfesting in terms of that point of view would simply be an aspect of Æther, a viewpoint-specific concentration within it (Fundamental #5). In this scenario, Æther would have manifested as a local entity not because it intended to do so specifically, but simply as a by-product of the act of focusing upon a specific thing.

This line of thought can lead to yet another difference between Æscirology and other cosmologies. The more common view is that the Prime Decision, such as one might be, would be, "To Be!" However, our reasoning and research seem to indicate that the Prime Decision is/was, "Experience!" This decision, in quest of an experience (a havingness), required action (doingness), which precipitated into its own foundation a position (beingness). Our difference is that while within the Grand Illusion it certainly appears that one must Be before one can Do in order to Have, the reverse of this apparent sequence is actually true regarding Æther and the actualization of the universe. The three are/were enfolded within one another, and their differentiation occurs/occurred with its initial point of focus at what we normally think of as the "end" of the sequence.

In this view, individuation is incidental to the act, which is itself merely prerequisite to the experience: the individual is more a consequence than a product. As such, the individual finds itself suddenly in existence, with no history and no self-knowledge in anything but the most general terms, effectively confronted with an experience but without a frame of reference.

At best, the individual would sense an echo of Æther itself, have no opinion about it at all, and enthusiastically set about the business of discovering its playground.

At worst, the individual would be horrified at the inconceivable sense of isolation that must come with feeling itself cut off but having no idea of from what. From there it might introvert completely, seeking only to recover or repair to that which, though completely unknown, most certainly must have been "better" than the cold, dark and empty isolation into which it feels it has been thrust.

This gives us fruit for speculation as to why some individuals remain enthusiastic throughout time, and why others seem to have been forever resisting virtually anything that moves. Of course the nearly infinite middle range would represent a relative scale between exhilaration and resistance.

At any rate--in line with the idea that the Prime Decision is "Experience!"--the purpose of life is formulated (Fundamental #4) as:

  • Mystery>Discovery>Surprise>Delight
Accordingly, the individual experiences existence as a process of discovering things and defining and labeling them for itself. It does this as a natural function of the purpose of life.

When the definitions and labels assigned by the individual are correct, there is no problem. Things are seen as they are, truth prevails, and the individual derives great joy in the doing.

However, when the definitions, etc., are incorrect, the misdirection that they lead to will compound the individual's sense of disconnection and aggravate its disorientation. Things are seen as something other than what they are, and truth does not prevail. We call incorrect definitions misunderstandings. We call the things that are or can be either understood or misunderstood, objects. We call the labels and other verbal and representational constructs by which we name objects, symbols. And we call the failure to understand such things linguistic error (mistakes in naming things).

There are at least five types of linguistic error in the contemplation of symbols. They are not discussed here.

There is also a hierarchy of intensities with regard to failures to understand. These rest upon the degree of the individual's original sense of disconnection. The greater it is, the more unwilling is the individual to experience its existence. From that unwillingness comes the individual's resistance to mystery and, by extension, to misunderstanding. It is this "resistance factor" that subliminally drives the individual to fight its entire existence to some degree. This becomes a vicious circle which serves only to fixate the individual's attention upon the unwanted, thus repeatedly delivering it into the individual's experience. (Fundamental 9: Attention is the creative catalyst; Fundamental 18: Resistance attaches attention and perpetuates the object of resistance.)

Further, there is a hierarchy of objects that can be misunderstood. At the top (or surface) of the list might be physical objects. In the middle would be less visible ideational objects, such as language and philosophy, and communication from others. At the base is the Æthereal - the true self, including one's relationships as part of that which is life and creates the world of experience. To the degree that self is misunderstood, self-image is compromised and nothing else can be correctly understood.

Therefore, the essence of disorientation is misunderstanding stemming from misdefinition, and the ultimate misdefinition is the compromised self-image.

The Effects of Disorientation

As stated above, abilities are manifestations of personal endowments of the Prime Paradigm capacities. Therefore one's abilities are part of the package, and directly relative to the true self. Similarly, when the individual attempts to function through a compromised self-image, it experiences limitations on and perversions of its abilities that are consistent with the compromised self-image. Where the self-image includes being a failure, failure manifests. Where it includes disability, a corresponding impotence follows. --And the individual manifests these unhappy circumstances with the full power of its native ability!

The worst aspect of the compromised self-image is the hidden pain of lost integrity - the individual does not feel whole and pure because it knows subliminally that it is not truly that which it is presenting itself to be. Accordingly, the individual does not consider itself deserving of admiration or success.

The manifestational experiences of the effects of disorientation are frustration and upset. This gives us a sequence of disorientation-based deterioration, first described by Wendell Johnson (People in Quandaries, 1946) as:

  • Idealism>Frustration>Disillusionment
or IFD disorder, where (1) idealism is the projection of a stylized personal situation as a probable reality which is then sought after in an exercise of achievement, (2) frustration occurs when for whatever reason the perfect manifestation of the ideal does not occur, and (3) disillusionment is the loss of the ideal, which includes the loss of the image of self as one who can achieve it.

Note that Johnson did not discuss in any detail the nature of the emotional responses that follow on the heels of the moment of frustration and then reinforce the disillusionment that results.

We build on Johnson's IFD concept, to say that the idealized self-image is progressively overlaid by series of less admirable self-images so that the individual now sees itself as relatively incapable. This is the mechanism of the individual's apparent degeneration from potential super-god to a lump of coal. This is the compromised self-image that must be corrected.


Lucidity is defined as clarity of mind, a state of effortless comprehension, and transparency of thought.

A fully lucid individual has an awareness of itself as a personified manifestation of Æther itself, and functions as just that. It has a full aspectal endowment of power - it is the Prime Paradigm personified into the role of the moment, and it pursues its allocation of life's endless combination of mystery and discovery with an unbridled enthusiasm, seeking manifestational mastery in all things as a matter of course and completely without effort.

The lucid individual recognizes every other being and object as simply an alternate version of itself--that is, Æther "being" those others as well as itself. Therefore, the lucid individual has a natural tendency to recognize the mutual causation of all parties involved in an experiential interaction.

Accordingly, the lucid individual does not cause effects it would not personally and willingly experience from the perspective of itself being those who are so affected. This is similar to the "Golden Rule", except that the lucid individual is willing to experience and share much larger effects than is the disoriented individual.

The lucid individual knows what and who it is, and understands life as the multidimensional and manifestationally infinite playground that it is. It is active or freely able to be active through every Domain of Life. (The Domains are a way of subdividing one's life presence and activity, intended to be used as a means to examine Life in confrontable segments. There are eight Domains, such as Personal, Group and Spiritual, and each is further divided into subDomains.)

Ultimately, for the lucid individual, life is about doing things and experiencing what happens. Thus the lucid individual experiences each object in the play of life--whether physical, ideational, or Æthereal, whether tool or reward, or success or setback--as fun, as interesting, and as nothing more than yet another thing to experience, understand and celebrate.

Degrees of Lucidity

Since the original drafting of this article in 1994-95, a major technical development has been achieved. Its consequences have been incorporated into this article since then, which affected our original listing of the Degrees of Lucidity just as dramatically as it affected our approach to Lucidity Enhancement (discussed a bit later herein). As of the first revision of this article in mid-1995, Semantic Adjustment (also discussed a bit later herein) had been constructed as a program that was delivered more or less in the sequence given in the original list, using the enhancement tools listed later. Now, however, both the approach and the classifications are quite different. Any similarities aside, the two presentations of this material should not be mixed; the reader or student should consider the 1995 version of this article cancelled. We apologize for any confusion this may generate, but progress does dictate that sometimes things which looked one way at one point in time must be viewed differently in the light of later developments.

As of mid-1995 we had observed the possibility of four degrees of enhanced lucidity, each achievable (recoverable) separately through Semantic Adjustment. They were numbered and pursued sequentially from L1 to L4. We continue to observe those same levels, but with two major modifications. First, we do not merely approach the levels sequentially with a layered program as before; we go directly for the core of the individual's disorientation using the product of our more recent discoveries and developments, "The Session". This has given rise to the second modification, the addition of a parallel status, the "Zero-Pointer" (described later under The Session; Zero-Point Clearing), which then required the reversing of the numbering so that the deeper ("more advanced") the level, the lower its number. We have also added a higher-numbered lesser degree, L5, which represents no enhancement at all.

The degrees of Lucidity per our current research and results so far are as follows. Again, note that in the following list the values are reversed from the original (and most other such listings) so that the lower the number of the level, the more orientation or Lucidity Enhancement it represents. Fortunately, the reducing numeric values can be seen as also representing the practical nature of Lucidity Enhancement, where the emphasis is on removing inhibitions from existing abilities rather than on the less-accurate idea of increasing ability. You might think of the degrees as some style of rankings, where #1 is best. It can also be thought of as One-ness or At-One-ness.

A "normal" individual who has unwanted negative conditions disrupting its existence.

This, the least degree of lucidity, represents garden-variety "human" life, complete with physical discomforts and the accepted day-to-day troubles of life as we know it within the Grand Illusion. Its only redeeming value is that it is a great place from which to start.
An individual who has no unwanted negative conditions disrupting its existence.

This degree of lucidity represents freedom from the physical discomforts and day-to-day troubles of life, and is thus the starting point for a being to explore and rehabilitate the less tangible aspects of existence. In fact, from this point forward, although we continue using the term "individual", it makes less and less sense to think of the being as a separate entity in the usual sense.
One who has achieved certainty of self as an eternally valid Spiritual Being.

An individual at L3 normally feels elevated relative to the world in general, as well as fully involved within each of the active Domains (spheres of influence and activity) in its Life.
One who has achieved certainty of self as an operating aspect of Æther.

Note that an individual who has achieved L2 no longer has OORs, stuck attention, or ongoing resistance to anything.

This Degree may have been achieved by an extremely rare few.
One who is operating with full spiritual abilities AS Æther personified, knowingly and intentionally selecting its personalized manifestation in each successive "Present Moment".

An L1 is at Dominion and in Communion - existing in a state of limitless equilibrium where the boundary between having an individual perspective and having resumed being Æther itself is too fuzzy to describe and no longer a point of concern.

Note that L1 is not known to have ever been achieved by anyone.
The Zero-Pointer
One who is experientially aware of itself as Æther in manifestation.

The Zero-Pointer is the direct and intended result of "The Session"; the chief distinction of an individual in this condition is that it blows barriers on inspection: it possesses the unfettered ability to terminate unwanted conditions simply by looking at them. The Zero-Pointer is something like an enhanced result and can also include all of the results of any of the various degrees (L4-L1). Where that is not entirely the case, there are procedures for facilitation of each degree which can be used to complete the result.

Note that The Zero-Pointer exists at a completely new state of awareness never before intentionally available.

Essential Concepts

The individual is a phenomenon of consciousness manifested within and inseparable from the whole.

The individual is unaware of its true substance and is therefore disoriented.

Predicated upon disorientation, everything the individual assumes, learns, does and knows stands atop a fundamental cosmic misunderstood which renders a Wrong Why for every detail of existence.

Disorientation and the Wrong Whys lead inevitably to Wrong Whats and Wrong Hows and thus to failed purposes; the individual's disorientation-based response is to feel overwhelmed and thus to misidentify the cause of its failures as coming from "outside" or "other" (Wrong Who); therefore the disoriented individual becomes alienated and Preemptively Defensive, and is never able to completely achieve a successful alignment with another person or group. (See our articles, Preemptive Defensiveness and Misalignment.)

An individual who is aware of its true self will not create effects upon "others" that it would not willingly experience as itself being them, so far as it can avoid compromising itself. (However, such an individual will not hesitate to defend its own or others' existence or havingness, even to the point of completely destroying the physical existence of an unjustified aggressor in a no-other-option emergency. This perspective also includes acceptance for an adventurous high-havingness individual to manifest effects personally even though others might find those experiences annoying or upsetting to observe, so long as such annoyances are not intrusion into the peace of other individuals.)

The individual's experience of life is a direct reflection if its beliefs about and understandings of life, existence and itself.

The body's primary purpose is to serve as an anchor point and focus delimiter, a safe refuge within which the disoriented individual may ignore the infinite aspect of its overwhelm. As such the body is constructed in accord with metaphors which represent the individual's experiential understanding of and attitudes toward itself and its environment.

The most valid approach to "recovery"/"therapy"/"enlightenment" is that which addresses disorientation most directly, either face-on or in setup to face-on; anything else is a pursuit of mere symptoms and a relative waste of time, effort and money.

Semantic Adjustment

In its natural state as Æther, the individual "knows" everything because it "is" everything, since everything is manifested within itself. Being individuated does nothing to lessen the innate sense of this. Therefore, the individual believes that, despite the "Mystery" component of the purpose of life, it should know everything. Because of that belief, the individual resists the existence of anything it does not understand.

Further, the individual devises and asserts standards for what it is willing to experience. In a sort of mental gymnastic, the assertion of those standards becomes resistance to anything that doesn't conform to them.

We call those unknown and unwanted things Objects Of Resistance (OORs). An OOR can be any thing or non-thing, however elemental or complex, no matter how large or small, solid or Æthereal: ideas, colors or shades of color, smells, automobiles, personality type, actual people--the possibilities are endless.

Semantic Adjustment is a set of coaching procedures for directing the individual's attention onto its OORs so that its resistance to each is terminated. This is done through the use of an intricate set of prepared questions which direct the individual's attention toward the hidden elements of either a condition, the Domains (one's spheres of influence in life), or the capacities described by the Prime Paradigm. The procedure is called Semantic Adjustment because its function is to examine the meanings and labels that the individual has assigned to objects and experiences. It is highly structured and proceeds from a set of heavily researched models of thought and existence. This is yet another reason we often refer to what we do as, "Consulting to a paradigm".

(Note: "Semantics" is the division of language studies that deals with the meanings of words and symbols. The term " semantic adjustment" is also an honorific in recognition of Wendell Johnson's guiding work in his book People in Quandaries, the semantics of personal adjustment).

Upon the termination of its resistance to an object, the individual recovers full awareness of the object as-is. Actually, the process is much the reverse of the way it appears: upon fully observing an OOR as-is, the individual's resistance to it will have already vanished, for one cannot resist what one is accepting. Simply viewing something as-is terminates resistance: willingly looking at and experiencing an OOR cuts through the unwillingness represented by the resistance. Accordingly, there is no useful need to put any more attention onto the fact of resistance itself than is necessary to identify the subject matter of the OORs that are to be viewed. This is an almost shockingly simple solution to the problem of insanity, which previously has almost universally considered to be desperately complex.

The individual may not consciously know everything possible about the formerly-resisted object after Semantic Adjustment, but it no longer has the object misunderstood because any misunderstanding has been exposed as a matter of course during the guided viewing of the OOR. This is not to say that the individual always automatically comes into possession of full knowledge regarding a former OOR. But at the least the former OOR transforms from a resisted misunderstood into a recognized not-understood. Also, where subsequent misunderstandings have rested upon earlier resistance, such misunderstandings transform as a by-product of the termination of that resistance.

Former objects of resistance and everything about them, including any remaining questions about them, are automatically reclassified in the individual's experience from "unacceptable" to "accepted". The individual then decides either to gain a correct understanding of any particular object if it seems important, or to let the object remain a recognized minor mystery when it seems unworthy of additional effort.

With each termination of a bit of resistance, the individual recovers increasing amounts of the attention it formerly had attached to the now-clarified OORs. With each recovery of formerly attached attention, the individual becomes more lucid in the present moment. This means that the individual becomes increasingly aware of its experiential reality, and increasingly able to access its true self, as the curtains of disillusionment are drawn away. The original tendency to automatically resist individuated existence is lessened, the individual becomes less and less disoriented, and the compromised self-image dissolves in the process.

The shift from resistance to acceptance occurs within an apparent paradox: the client must reach through its resistance to view its OORs in order to terminate the resistance. Therein lies the value of having an attention-directing process facilitated by a practitioner who has had his own successful personal experience with the process. And therein is revealed the reasoning behind the original name of the philosophy of Æscirology: Acceptance.

Lucidity Enhancement

As discussed in this article's Introduction, there are two sides to a theory of spiritual restoration: what is to be restored; and, what has been modifying it so that restoration has become necessary. Those items were defined as the essential individual and disorientation. This means that if the disorientation is handled, the essential individual will shine through automatically. Lucidity Enhancement is the means for accomplishing this, using a program of semantic adjustment procedures.

The Æscirian Lucidity Enhancement Program comprises three sections: Setups, The Session, and Follow-up. An additional bonus, Ability Enhancement, is available as an add-on to give people an extra boost.

This program is considered confessional in every respect, and therefore everything said by the individual to an Æscirian practitioner is absolutely confidential. To keep this foremost in mind, in the context of Lucidity Enhancement we refer to the client individual as the Petitioner (one who requests service) and to the facilitator as the Practitioner.


The Setups section has three parts: Diagnostics, Impediments and the optional or variable Condition Assessment.


The two diagnostic tools we use are the P/I-1 and the Effectiveness Profile.

The P/I-1 The P/I-1 (Program Interview #1) is an in-depth initial interview form used to develop a list of the major details of the individual's life so that patterns may be identified for inspection. It also identifies glaring situations that might interfere with the program, so they can be addressed beforehand. This includes such things as current illnesses and living in circumstances that are predictably oppressive or even antagonistic to self-actualization.

The Effectiveness Profile The Effectiveness Profile is a unique software tool whose purpose is to assist the discovery and prioritization of self-improvement needs. It is used within the P/I-1 and subsequent progress interviews (P/I-2 and up) to establish whether or not any Condition Assessments will be required in the Setup section of our program.


One of the most important requirements of successful semantic adjustment is that the Petitioner must have all of its sentient (conscious) attention willingly and fluidly available for the process. Things that grab at the Petitioner's attention fit into groupings we call Impediments. Impediments are nothing more than small-time troubles made big by intensity--they almost never represent anything truly important in the scheme of The Session. Yet when they are left in place they can and do lay waste to entire lives because they steal attention and interrupt thought processes. An individual who cannot direct its own attention and thoughts is definitely lost. Similarly, the Impediments interfere with Lucidity Enhancement. The Petitioner must:

  1. Have its sentient attention free and directable in the present moment;
  2. Be consciously and willingly present and participating;
  3. Be interested in the examination and resolution of its own case.

Each impediment is addressed using a particular semantic adjustment procedure developed for that impediment. We check for and handle ten types of impediments, as follows.

General Sweep First we check for general distractions, and barriers such as being tired or hungry.

Upsets Upsets are real attention-grabbers and must be dissolved or reduced to a plan that can be taken care of systematically, before The Session may occur.

Problems Problems are usually low-grade but constant distractions, although they may also be emergencies. Consultations should be postponed in emergency situation. Otherwise, problems must also be resolved to plans before continuing.

Withholds Dangerous secrets undermine self-esteem and seek justification in the errors of others. And they inhibit communication. Dangerous secrets must be discharged between the Petitioner and the Practitioner before the communication exchange can be fully honest and constructive. (Withholds in the Impediment sense do not include trivial secrets and things that are properly not another person's business. We do not support artificial social standards that seem to require friends to tell each other everything, or that seem to require people to tell other people their mutual friends' private business, no matter how badly those friends and other people press their demand to know such things.)

Misdeeds Few things can hold one back like guilt. And confession isgood for the soul. Our Practitioners are prohibited from disclosing anything confessed to them by their clients, no matter what. The objective of the Practitioner is the success of The Session, not to judge or, punish the individual's past disorientation-influenced transgressions. (We absolutely will not testify against a client in court, but we are equally strong in our refusal to appear as a character witness as well: the one leads to the other.)

Failed Purposes Failed purposes cause apathy, disillusionment and reduced expectations. Obviously we can't leave such roadblocks in the way.

By-passed Wins When a person by-passes a win in life or some cause, its attention tends to stick at that point in a sort of holding pattern, waiting for the achievement to be validated. This can cause one to discount or even belittle subsequent achievements.

Opposition Self-improvement and personal actualization has its enemies. People and organizations that benefit from having compromised or weakened others or from having tricked or coerced them into servitude, all have a vested interest in keeping others from improving their positions and liberty. Such connections must be identified and renegotiated.

Expectations An essential ingredient that must be delivered from the client's side of the interaction is open-mindedness. Semantic Adjustment will be difficult, or even fail, to the degree that the client brings a set of pre-existing expectations into the process and imposes them upon its results. Conversely, Semantic Adjustment succeeds easily to the degree that the client approaches it with an attitude of innocence and remains open to the possibility that the actual result, and even reality itself, might turn out to be something completely unexpected yet just as wonderful as might have been imagined.

Note that positive expectations can cause trouble too. For example, going into the Session thinking that one's past studies and achievements in self-improvement will make it simple or easy, or thinking that one is eminently qualified to zip right through the process, can result in quite a shock, or even set the Petitioner up for a painful sense of failure.

There is additional discussion of counter-productive expectations in the Ability Exercises section of this article.

Goals We encourage every Petitioner to speculate as to what can be done through a new and improved self, and to clarify those expectations it already has. In part, this is to take the edge off the previous Impediment. But it is also to jump-start the Petitioner toward building a future as itself as it progresses through and emerges from our services.

Conditions Assessment

The purpose of a Condition Assessment is to discharge a current-life pattern. Condition Assessments are optional as indicated (as needed). If the Petitioner has something in play that prevents The Session from occurring or continuing, we take the detour and handle it. An unwanted and obstructing condition is almost like a giant Impediment, and no real progress will be had by ignoring it.

Note that Condition Assessments can be found necessary at any point during or even after completion of the program, although they are least likely necessary afterward, for reasons discussed in the Inspection sub-section of the Ability Enhancement section. Note also that there is an observable relationship between The Session and Condition Assessments. The Session targets the basic disorientation directly, while the Condition Assessment normally addresses the more issue-specific generalities that lie atop the basic disorientation and distract from reaching it.

The Session

The Session appears to be very close to being a "silver bullet" in the quest for spiritual recovery. It is relatively short even at its longest, and gets astoundingly deep and far-reaching results. For several clients who had already done a great deal of self-improvement or "clearing work", there has remained virtually nothing further to do except the follow-up exercises--no unwanted conditions, no areas of life that weren't satisfactory, and no lack of certainty of self or awareness of one's true place within or "above" the Grand Illusion. Even when the immediate results of Zero-Point Clearing are not quite so dramatic, the supplemental procedures are so greatly reinforced by the results that were gotten, that completing the case looks more like cleanup than a program.

The original "program" name for The Session during its development was Zero-Point Clearing, because the end result of The Session is the free and uninhibited access to what is known in the new physics as Zero-Point. It is at Zero-Point that all power exists in equilibrium, potentially and kinetically available to anyone with access. Thus a "sessioned" individual has direct access to, even if not demonstrating, potentially infinite ability and spiritual power. We came to call the procedure "The Session" when it began to appear that for many people, its reinforcing Access Coaching and the follow-up described in the next sub-section might be all that is needed to completely dissolve disorientation and finally establish the individual as its True Self. While The Session has not yet fully realized this potential, we have retained its elevation as the primary lucidity enhancement action because of the profound, if not complete, bite it always takes out of the problem of disorientation.

Zero-Point Clearing

Zero-Point Clearing is a special advanced Semantic Adjustment procedure that is applied to what can be called one's Spiritual Birthing: the most fundamental--and as it turns out the most disorienting moment in an individual's existence. We call this moment Incident Zero (Inc.0) because it is that which comes before anything and everything.

Everyone has experienced Inc.0, even though not everyone came away from it in a necessarily bad condition (recall the discussion of enthusiasm and resistance in the Disorientation section above). Still, most of the people on Planet Earth are toward the resistance end of the scale.

Incident Zero does not resolve in the same manner as a normal traumatic incident or upset. It is pre-language, indeed, pre-experience, and can only be accessed by way of special metaphors. Metaphor is a symbology that is senior to language, in which one thing or class of things is used to represent a quality or aspect of another, or where something which in itself is too unique or difficult to express can be represented by some more common or obvious item or phenomenon instead.

Business as war is a common example of metaphor. It is in evidence everywhere: attack markets, dominate markets, own the market, crush the competition, etc. Another example is "time is money": Don't waste my time; This will be time well spent.

Despite my having made it my life's work to articulate Truth, and my refusal to yield to claims that this is an impossible task, I do recognize that there does finally come a point so close to the absolute as to defy words if only because it is so simple a thing that there is no one word for it and the more words one tries to use, the more complicated the statement becomes and the less of the fact shows through it. As I have said on the Contents page of my forthcoming book on business philosophy, "There are no communicable Truths, only approximate articulations." It is at this level that metaphor becomes indispensable, and this is the reason access to Zero-point has been forever denied to us. But that has changed. We now have the concept and the metaphors that open the door.

Note that we strongly request, of every parishioner and client, that the actual events and process of The Session not be discussed with anyone who has not already completed it. This is because everyone is unique, as is everyone's particular experience of it, as well as each person's particular metaphorical response, realizations and results. Beyond the common point of the discovery of one's true self, each person changes differently and proceeds from there in a slightly or startlingly different way. It is also because we all tend to assign too much validity to the experiences of those who have gone before. Unfortunately, one person's happy experience can become another's blinding and counterproductive expectation.

Access Coaching

Once one has knowingly experienced Zero-Point and cleared away any trouble associated with it, Zero-Point has become readily accessible to one. Access Coaching is done to ensure that the Petitioner gets enough practice and confidence with Accessing that it can do so at will and will do so without thought whenever it seems appropriate to draw upon and express some greater aspect of the infinite capacity of the true-self-as-Æther. The Petitioner is also encouraged at this point to make Zero-Point Access something of a meditation-type exercise to be done at least daily. The long-term objective, of course, is to learn to exist Æthereally while at the same time acting locally, individually.

Extending the idea of existing ∆thereally but acting locally, Accessing is applied two ways: Power Access and Enhancement Access. With Power Accessing, the intent is to reconnect directly with the full potential of ∆ther. Enhancement Access is used to bring forth some quality, ability or environmental possibility, by carrying a particular focus into the ∆thereal state.


Inspection is the act of directing willing conscious attention into an inhibited or impulse-driven topic with the intention of exposing and dissipating any resistance-hidden confusions and denials that underlie the inhibition or impulse. Semantic Adjustment procedures are actually facilitations of inspection. Yet even in such coached formats, the client individual is the one actually doing the inspection.

The greatest service anyone can render to another is freedom from the need for service. We do this at this point by teaching the individual how to perform its own inspections without outside assistance or direction. Once this has been done, the individual is set upon a continuing expansion of its lucidity enhancement that proceeds largely as a response to life's surprises. This is a happy reversal of the norm on Planet Earth, that of gradually deteriorating in response to life's challenges. (Note that the perspective on the two is not even the same: surprises rather than challenges.)

If the individual follows our full program of Lucidity Enhancement by taking its training all the way, by becoming a full Practitioner, the odds are very high that it will never again need outside assistance with another difficulty.


As wonderful as The Session's results are, there is one very important cautionary point to be made: The fundamental shift in perspective available from The Session (often quite sudden and usually ongoing for some time) can be extremely "loosening" for the individual. Entire sets of anchor-points to the individual's life may be dissolved, particularly where they were based on error or confusion to begin with. If not addressed correctly, this can cause the disintegration of the individual's entire domestic, social and/or professional situations. Needless to say, we are strongly opposed to letting self-improvement activities unnecessarily tear families apart or destroy valuable careers, or even remove good people from public service. We have addressed this issue by including a Follow-up reconstruction section.

The arrangement of these exercises and facilitations is generally as follows. However, they are integrated into the entirety of the program, and my be commenced before and even during actions already described above. Certain of them also extend beyond the time-frame of receiving the services to become life-administration skills.

Integrity Mini-Course

This is a coached process of examining the essence of integrity and the nature of its importance in taking and existing in terms of positions, as well as its value in spiritual survival. Advance preparation studies can be done for this segment by spending some time on such ASC articles as The Health Aspect of Integrity, AutoSelection, and Destiny.

Alignment Construct

The Alignment Construct is an orientation/reorientation tool for articulating an entire personal or organizational philosophy in the form of a coherent, usable, extensive and yet compact and principled visioning statement. It comprises 15 parts, each including up to 12 or more specific elements. These cover such items as principles, objectives, vision, progress indicators, and general policy, all in two or three well-honed pages within which each item is meshed into an internally consistent whole.

Strategic Contingency Planning

Strategic Contingency Planning is a model for defining and pursuing objectives in a fluid manner that avoids the constraints of rigid linear thinking. It provides a "controlled chaos" variable-path approach to planning that anticipates variations in circumstances and automatically adjusts for them as they occur. Based on Manifestational Chaos Theory (see the Speaker's book, Mind Matters), Strategic Contingency Planning separates and enhances strategy and logistics, facilitates the accommodation of unforseen developments while increasing creativity at the life-process level, and creates an internal atmosphere of opportunity-sensitive entrepreneurialism. This is a tool for getting from a continually-redefined "Here" to a constantly different emerging "There" in an ever-refocusing Here-And-Now.

The Standings

The abilities to assume, hold and proceed from a position are the essence of strength. There are many reinforcing facets to these abilities, including clarity, perspective, right action and integrity, all of which are addressed in this article. All of these are facilitated by the use of the Standing Enhancement Procedures. Each procedure is a step-by-step situation analysis and response path that takes one more and more toward self-actualization and life and career achievement, all in tandem, all on the same set of principles. Implementing simplified versions of statistical and other analysis tools, The Standings are the ultimate personal and professional continuous-improvement process.

Standings by Domains

The Standings procedures can be applied to each Domain and subDomain. This takes the benefit across the breadth of life itself, putting everything one is doing or will do onto the same solid foundation. The result is a well-reasoned and entirely consistent life built upon principle and extended and defended through integrity. The long-term benefit in the context of this program is a spiritual being who is effective at all of life and existence.


Remnant Assessment

We do not try to clear every unwanted condition before addressing Zero-point because we have found that many such conditions evaporate after Incident Zero has been discharged. The reason for this is that Incident Zero is the fundamental element underlying the individual's existence; the bad stuff rests on top of it and loses its foundation when Incident Zero is discharged.

However, this does not mean that everything will be perfect after clearing Incident Zero. Fragments may remain, and until the client becomes skilled enough to vanquish any depth of illusion, help may be needed. In such instances, we apply the Conditions Assessment to the problem area and dissolve it. This can be thought of as a clean-up version of our former main clearing program, where the Condition Assessment was the best approach we had before the discovery and development of Zero-point Clearing.

Domains Assessment

The same intricate semantic adjustment procedure that is used to illuminate and dissolve unwanted conditions can also be used to examine and reconstruct one's spheres of activity and influence in life. We use the term Domains to discuss those spheres. The Domains Assessment is the application of the Assessment procedure to the several Domains and their subDomains. The result is the eternally-sought well-examined life, with all parts intentionally consistent.

Note that the Domains Assessment illuminates the function and value of integrity, clarifies one's Alignment Construct, and removes internal barriers to completing the remaining tasks of the reconstruction process.

Ability Enhancement

There are things we need to be able to do, and then there are things we'd love to be able to do. The most needful one is the ability to vanquish problems and inner barriers instantly without needing a practitioner's assistance except in the most extreme of situations. (If even then!) This ability is discussed below as Inspection. Then there are the extra-normal abilities we hear about as the performances of saints and mystics and the otherwise gifted or unusual person. These abilities are discussed below in the Ability Exercises section. Also discussed is the Prime Paradigm Assessment, a trouble-shooting consultation to free up inner conflicts and confusion regarding abilities.

Prime Paradigm Assessment

The Prime Paradigm Assessment uses the same Semantic Adjustment procedures as the Condition and Domain assessments. The objective is to direct the individual's attention into and through any manifestational glitches that may be interfering with the true self's free expression of the capacities described in the Prime Paradigm (consciousness, volition and intention).

For example, telepathy could be considered an ability based primarily upon the capacity of consciousness. In the process of coaching the individual to a better understanding of consciousness, and through whatever exercise may exist or come to exist for the enhancement of telepathy, indications may arise to the effect that the individual has inner conflict inhibiting the necessary changes in perspective or the actual performance of the deed. The practitioner will turn in such cases to semantic adjustment as applied to the Prime Paradigm.

Ability Exercises

Neither Lucidity Enhancement in general nor The Session in particular has ability enhancement as an intended result. Their intent is to recover the essential individual and establish it as conscious willing cause over itself for the first time in its existence. Therefore, this article was never intended to delve very much into the possibilities and processes of ability enhancement. Ability enhancement is actually a separate subject from lucidity enhancement. It has its own procedures and exercises which require that lucidity enhancement be completed first. The primary reason it is discussed here is that the "recovery of abilities" has proven to be one of the most common among pre-existing expectations and one of the most common disappointed desires in most advanced self-improvement endeavors. Yet what good is recovering one's true self with all its infinite potential if one does not know how to do life correctly? After all, this is not simply a feel-good seminar!

There are other good reasons for discussing the average client's desire to arrive to some state of super-being through what we offer. One reason is that it is possible for us to help with that objective. We can be of more assistance than simply delivering a client to the doorstep. Another reason is that the undiscussed expectation or desire for ability enhancement as a by-product of lucidity enhancement can work as an impediment to getting the true result of lucidity enhancement. Most of this is addressed in the Expectations impediment. But that impediment handling is designed only to set aside the hidden criteria by which the individual sabotages its understanding of its progress. So here in this section we take up the validity and possibilities behind the desire, hopefully to re-cast it from a pre-condition of success, from the status of a short-term motivation, into a final-step objective beyond lucidity enhancement. In this way perhaps we can keep its incomplete or sporadic manifestation during lucidity enhancement from interfering with the process or setting the client up for a premature disappointment.

The client who comes into The Session expecting to walk out a fully-enabled superbeing is not completely in error: ability does begin to free up during lucidity enhancement. But the client who expects the result of lucidity enhancement to include having all imaginable esp-type and god-like abilities automatically turned on and available at will? Well, that's a client who will probably be disappointed.

The primary fault in this expectation is that until completing The Session and recovering one's true self, one has never actually been one's true self. Therefore neither has one ever had real access to, or free exercise of, one's true abilities. In the vast meanwhile, one has instead only had available some limited styles and even twisted versions of ability, while one has also accumulated extensive misunderstandings about abilities and a long list of bad habits in their use and abuse.

An entirely different application of semantic adjustment exists to address these twists and habits, and there is a set of exercises to strengthen the various abilities inherent in being a co-acting extension of AEther. It is true that all abilities do exist as part of the package. The challenge is in seeing them as they are and simply having them, rather than trying to "make them work". Unfortunately for the wishfulness of the desire discussed here, a subtly different language needs to be incorporated into the individual's world-view first, where words like "try" no longer exist and explanatory slogans like "Force is resistance; Effort is failure!" are the order of the day.

Taking it From the Top

A "sessioned" individual is, like an L1, is at Dominion and in Communion, etc. (for the complete "L" listing, review Degrees of Lucidity, above). The difference is that Zero-Point Clearing is now done as the first major Lucidity Enhancement action because it so often renders portions of the standard program unnecessary. It is preceded only by our initial diagnostics and its own Setup steps. This is faster and therefore less expensive for the client, although it also tends to be a much wilder ride. Even so, no matter how "blown out" the individual is as a result, there is often some residual work still to be done as described in the other levels.

There may be some remaining unwanted conditions, and occasional blockages. However, the "Zero-Pointer" now finds such things so much more easy and relatively effortless to vanquish, that what might have taken several sessions on the standard-program approach alone might now only take one or two sessions. Or none at all: the Zero-Pointer possesses an easily-mastered power not generally available at lower levels. It blows on inspection. What this means is that, just as described in the section on Semantic Adjustment, the Zero-Pointer is able to terminate unwanted conditions simply by looking at them. The Zero-Pointer's awareness of its own role in the creation of things is so high that it cannot inspect something without seeing its own role in bringing the condition about. That alone is usually enough to dissolve any unwanted situation.

The Session is now the center point and primary procedure in our pursuit of Lucidity Enhancement. We move into it quickly and use the standard Semantic Adjustment toolkit as necessary supplementation. The consequence of this development is a much more successful, and much faster, journey Home.

When supplemental sessions are needed, they are usually much quicker and fewer are necessary. A complete Lucidity Enhancement support "toolset" is available for the purpose: the Condition Assessment for unwanted conditions; the Domains Assessment for removing inhibitions against action in particular Domains; the Follow-up reconstruction section of building and preserving the desired life; the Prime Paradigm Assessment for erasing personal power blockages; and, Ability Exercises to clarify and stabilize the individual's abilities once unleashed.


First there is the recovery of the true self through lucidity enhancement in The Session. Then there is the remaining semantic adjustment to flesh out and stabilize the result. Many individuals do begin to experience various new ability phenomena at this point, but often not predictably or even on demand.

Then comes the follow-up work, applying Standings by Domains. This set of by-the-numbers assignments rebuilds the parts of one's life that disintegrated in The Session because in the light of lucidity the true self could not maintain the personal integrity violations they had been built upon. Standings by Domains acts as an insurance policy that the individual won't blow up its life and then be unable to put it back together in a more proper form.

Only after the client is well into the Standings by Domains homework should any serious concern or attention be directed toward "extra-normal" abilities. Up to that point, the attention given to the question of abilities should be focused on the day-to-day skills needed to correct, rebuild and establish one's life.

Lucidity is not the same as enhanced ability, it is the pre-requisite. Lucidity is a destination in and of itself, of the opening-the-door type, and should be celebrated as such for a moment when it is achieved. It should not be demoted to being viewed as a quick way-stop on the road to something "bigger" or "better", even though once one has gone the distance it certainly will stand as the most important milestone in the journey. From that vantage point, lucidity can be seen to be the platform upon which one builds one's existence, including the enhancement of one's abilities.

It is only from having done all of these steps that one may truly appreciate the effortless nature of existence. And it is probably only then that true, free-flowing, unrestricted and uninverted ability can be expected to reliably manifest. At that point we can introduce the individual to our ability exercises.

One final note of caution. As described above, the individual may still need some semantic adjustment to fully manifest particular abilities. But beyond that is the simple truth, mentioned earlier in this article, that abilities are relative to the self-image, and thus vary from individual to individual in much the same way as those individuals are unique from one another. However, there is a saving grace: the self-image is never more solid than the force of one's definition of it. This means that who one is, and the abilities one manifests, should be considered optional and discretionary. For in the greater scheme of things, one is everything anyway.


The word "Æther" is an ancient Alchemy term originally used to name the underlying conscious fabric of the universe. It provides one of the two roots for our new word. The first syllable of Æther (Æ, used as a symbol for "consciousness"), combined with "scir" (the root word of "science"), gives us Æ + scir: Æscir(tm), science of consciousness. The Æ character is pronounced the same as the "short e" in "best"; the word is pronounced "esher". Then we build on Æscir to get a full set of descriptive terms regarding our world-view and its applications.

The result is something we call the Æscirian Triosophy: a three-part religious philosophy / spiritual therapy / lifestyle proposition. We used all three of the common suffixes for such things: -ology (the study of), -etics (the technology of), and -ism (the way of). This gave us three variations on the word Æscir, as follows.

Æscirology is the study of the science of consciousness. Æsciretics is the technical application of the principles of Æscirology to the problem of spiritual restoration. Æscirism is a set of speculations on possible lifestyles and social structures based on Æscirian philosophy.

A necessary fourth word, of course, is Æscirian, a simple adjective used to describe anything of or pertaining to Æscir-whatever.

The main word, Æscir, is also used as a proper name, in two ways. First it names the state of mind of those who have attained the personal / spiritual objectives of the Æscirian Triosophy. Second, it is the name of the organization that represents them and others who adhere to either (or all) of the study, the restorational methodology, and the postulated lifestyle. Therefore, Æscir is both a state of consciousness and a political State.
